The purification of rivers includes new, high-efficiency denitrification systems (with an 85% efficiency), next-generation fabric filters to reduce dust (with a 99.9% efficiency) and desulphurisation systems for limestone /chalk fumes with a 97% efficiency.
Overall, emissions will be reduced, namely 88% of sulphur oxides, 61% of nitrogen oxides and 88% of dust.
Coal logistics
Coal will be supplied by water (Adriatic Sea and Po river) on oceanic ships, and a storage ship will be anchored about 5 km away from the coast. Coal will be transported to the power plant using a barge with a closed hold avoiding spillages.
Inside the power plant, the handling of the coal will be carried out with the utmost care and safety, thanks to closed depressurised and atomised conveyor belts, which will carry the coal directly from the holds to the heating unit, without dispersions.
Overall, the rsPorto Tolle oil-to-coal conversion project will reduce fuel consumption and thermal loss, also increasing environmental performance.
